Iraqi People Angry about Iran’s Interference

IN 2019, the Iraqi citizens had attacked the Iranian consulates three times in two Iraqi cities. One attack targeted the Iranian consulate in Karbala, which is considered a Shia-holy-city by some school-of-thoughts within Shia (Shiite).

During one of these attacks in November, the Iraqi citizens replaced Iranian flag with the Iraqi flag. They chanted slogans against Iranian involvement inside Iraq.

The Iraqi people are angry about Iran’s interference in Iraqi politics and the life of the common Iraqi people. During the recent anti-government protests in Iraq, the protesters chanted slogans against Khomeini. Even Iraqi Shias, who were previously sympathetic towards Iranian leadership, have now rejected Iran’s Khomeini.

Khomeini has lost his acceptability in the minds of the common Iraqis. However, most of the Iraqi Shia politicians and most of the Shia armed-groups in Iraq are still loyal to the Iranian leadership.
